When the worst happens, we rebuild
From a tired top end to a full bottom-end rebuild — done in-house, measured to BMW tolerances, and only ever recommended when the numbers say it’s worth it.
When an engine is telling you something serious
Most engine noises aren’t terminal — and part of our job is telling you when they’re not. But some symptoms deserve a compression tester rather than crossed fingers.
The assessment comes first, always: sometimes a repair beats a rebuild, sometimes a replacement engine beats both, and we’ll give you the honest arithmetic either way.

One workshop, start to finish
Rebuilds go wrong when they’re passed between hands. Here, the technician who diagnosed your engine strips it, measures it and rebuilds it — with photographs and video at every stage, so you see exactly what was found and what went back in.
We rebuild everything from hard-working N47 diesels after chain failure to six-cylinder petrols and M engines — and because servicing, diagnostics and the rebuild all live under one roof, the root cause gets fixed at the same time, not discovered afterwards.
Measured, rebuilt, proven
Compression and leak-down testing, borescope inspection and oil evidence — then a straight conversation about rebuild, repair or replacement.
The engine comes apart and every critical dimension is measured against BMW tolerances, with machining arranged where components can be saved.
Bearings, rings, seals, gaskets, chains and consumables in genuine or OE specification — and anything marginal replaced while the engine is open.
Careful first running, checks and re-checks, clear run-in guidance — and the work guaranteed for 12 months / 15,000 miles.
Rebuild or replacement engine — which is better?+
It depends on what failed and what donor engines cost at the time. We price both honestly and tell you which we’d choose for our own car — sometimes a good used engine with new ancillaries is the smarter spend, and we’ll say so.
Is my engine even worth rebuilding?+
Not always — and that’s a conversation, not a sales pitch. We weigh the car’s value, the damage found, and what else the engine needs. If the arithmetic doesn’t work, we’ll tell you before you spend serious money.
How long does a rebuild take?+
It varies with what we find and parts availability, so we won’t pretend there’s a standard number — but we agree a realistic timescale with you up front and keep you updated with photos as it progresses.
What guarantee do I get?+
Our standard guarantee applies: 12 months or 15,000 miles on our workmanship, whichever comes first, on top of the manufacturer warranty on the parts fitted.
Do you rebuild M engines?+
Yes — M cars are a speciality here, including rod-bearing work on the engines known for it. See our M cars page for how we look after them day to day.
